Golf is undoubtedly a favourite pastime for many living in the UK, however, the weather can often make even the most enjoyable rounds, something of a battle. As a result, it’s becoming increasingly important to have a quality pair of waterproof shoes in your locker, for the days when a normal golf pair will just not do.
I have put together a list of some of the best waterproof golf shoes available at the minute, which will help to keep rain and moisture out during even the stormiest of weather.
The products discussed range in style and price, with golfers certain to find something that suits their needs below. Let’s get things underway by taking a look at my first shoes on this list.
The Lunar Control Vapor 2 from Nike delivers across the board when it comes to support, comfort and grip, whilst a waterproof membrane in the upper of the shoe also means that your feet will stay dry during wet weather. The fact that these shoes still come with Nike’s unique flywire technology in the midfoot also helps to ensure lockdown at all times.
As well as the Lunar Control Vapor 2 being among the best waterproof golf shoes around, they also provide excellent grip in all conditions. This worked as well as anywhere when finding that bit of extra grip off the tee and creating a little more power.
A TPU heel-counter helps to lock down the foot at all times, allowing for fantastic stability both during and after striking the ball. The Nike Lunar Control Vapor 2 are available in a range of colours, making them one of the most attractive products in this list thanks to their simplistic design.
Ecco have probably been one of the biggest “break-out” companies within the golf sector over the last decade or so. In the Biom Hybrid 3 you get a look at some of their most advanced technology to date, which cumulates in a highly impressive product.
The waterproof nature is perhaps their biggest selling point, which is achieved thanks to their GORE-TEX construction.
I found during testing that the cushioning on the sole allows for excellent comfort when walking around the course with the gripped outsole providing stability during shots. As well as this, the fact that these shoes are made from Ecco’s well-known YAK leather only adds to their suitability for testing weather conditions.
Despite being at a higher price than most in our testing, you can rest assured that you are undoubtedly getting your hands on a quality product, with removable cushioning in the insole demonstrating what kind of shoes these are.
On top of all this, these Scandinavian inspired shoes look fantastic in their simplicity, with the range of colours catering for all styles. The Biom Hybrid 3 is a good option for both on and off the golf course.
Adidas has developed one of the most eye-catching waterproof golf shoes around, with the CLIMAPROOF BOA product offering protection from rain, wind and snow. Adidas’ Climaproof technology also helps to keep your feet dry in the wet, while a unique foam sock liner provides additional warmth and comfort.
I found that the synthetic upper of these shoes ensured both dryness and comfort during testing, the microfibre leather also aiding in durability for the shoe. As well as this, if you are needing a little extra room for a wide fit, then these are going to fit the bill.
A six-spike configuration on the sole allows for excellent stability at all times, whilst also helping to grip the surface even in the rain.
Given the number of features on these shoes, the price point is perhaps high, yet warranted in my opinion. Their design may not appeal to the fashion conscious, but when it comes to the best waterproof golf shoe, they are one of the best.
The Waterproof golf boots from FootJoy provide protection from the most severe weather conditions, whilst not affecting players when it comes to performance on the course.
A DuraMax rubber outsole provides both warmth and durability, whilst also ensuring that the shoes remain 100% waterproof at all times.
I found that the enhanced ankle portion of the shoes also aided in stability, as well as adding to comfort levels during testing. FootJoy’s spike technology on the soles means that I was able to retain grip, even in wet conditions underfoot.
The FJ Waterproof Golf Boots are undoubtedly one of the best products for those looking for more of a budget golf shoe, with the use of quality materials meaning that they should last for a significant amount of time.
The Delmar sports shoe from Callaway offers excellent traction and stability, while the soft leather upper and moulded insole provides a hugely comfortable product. Callaway also offers a one-year waterproof guarantee, but I found no issues with moisture entering the shoes during testing on a wet course.
Additional traction is achieved even in the toughest conditions thanks to Xfer power wall technology, while I found that the multi-directional aspects of the shoe helped to achieve excellent stability on a range of lies, allowing me to hit shots at full power.
The Golf Demar sports shoes have a traditional feel to them, which is certain to attract plenty of golfers. The price point also means that this product is an excellent option for beginners and those who take to the course every now and then, with the leather upper providing good levels of durability too.
You should have found something to suit your golfing needs from the products discussed already, however there are still some important decisions to be made before going ahead with your purchase.
It is all well and good having a shoe that will keep your feet dry whilst out on the course, however if they do not provide a good level of traction in the wet then they are unlikely to aid your game.
During testing conditions, you are going to find yourself playing shots from a range of different angles and terrains, only adding to the importance of having a good quality spike system in place. Such systems are likely to range from shoe to shoe, so find one that suits the style of your game, but avoid any golf shoes without proper spikes/studs and summer shoes.
The materials used in waterproof shoes are even more important than regular pairs, with most players searching for something that remains both lightweight and comfortable even after a number of hours walking the course in the rain.
As a result, it is important to keep an eye on the quality of shoes in which you are considering, with this likely to have an effect upon their performance and durability.
Waterproof golf shoes are likely to be more expensive but, you must bear in mind how long they will potentially be with you.
Those taking to the range or course on a regular basis are advised to invest in a good quality pair that may set you back a little extra. It comes down to value for money and with these types of products, I found that generally, the more you spend the longer lasting the product.
